As the price of electricity seems to rise year-on-year here in Australia, we need to start doing what we can to be able to bring more light into our properties without having to continually pay for it. Our medical practitioners are always telling us that natural light is incredibly good for the body both physically and mentally and yet many homes here in Australia don’t have enough glass windows and doors installed from the very beginning.

The good news is that you can install glass sliding doors and they have never been more affordable than they are right now. Their popularity has risen over the past number of years and this has helped to make purchasing them more affordable. You can place them at the rear of your home as well as the front and they allow a lot more natural light to shine inside into your kitchen, your reception area and many other rooms in your home.

This is just one excellent way to bring more natural light into your property and the following are some others that you might want to consider.

    1. Schedule regular window cleaning – If you have a single story property, it seems likely that you’ll try to clean the windows by yourself to save yourself some money. The unfortunate thing however is that you’re most likely not cleaning them properly and so the light is not allowed to shine through. It makes more sense to engage with the professionals who will use their professional skills and equipment to really clean the glass and it helps to protect your frames as well.
    2. Consider some skylights – These are something that many Australian homeowners frequently overlook and they are the perfect solution when it comes to letting a lot more light come into your property including warm sunshine. Not only is your home lit up in the daytime but it also helps to heat the inside of the property up in the winter. They can be easily opened and closed and you can even install an electric motor that is controlled with a remote.
  • Clear space around your property – Many Australians plant trees around their property to provide themselves with the privacy that is so sadly lacking nowadays. The unfortunate thing however with this, is that when trees grow tall, not only do they stop people from being able to look into your property but they also stop natural light from coming in as well. If your privacy is a valuable commodity then maybe plant your trees and shrubs in pots they can be moved at certain times of the year.

Once you install your new glass sliding doors, get your windows cleaned on a regular basis, install some skylights and clear space around your property, and you should be able to get a lot more natural light coming in. Once the light can get in, think about buying and installing more mirrors in the right places, to reflect the light everywhere.
